FAQ

Do I need shots for my destination?
Low risk health areas of the world are Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, and Western Europe. For these destinations you should be up-to-date on routine vaccinations needed for the USA – we can provide a short appointment.

How far ahead should I schedule?
Some vaccines are given in a series, and reach full protective value after a few weeks have elapsed. Call as soon as your plans are firm. We recommend an initial appointment at least 4 weeks before departure.

I leave next week, am I too late?
We will meet your travel health needs as completely as possible.

I have complicated medical problems, and I still want to travel, can you help me?
Yes. We can work with your primary care physician to anticipate problems and minimize your risks. We charge for our time to communicate with your team and customize a plan for you.

Will my insurance pay for travel shots?
We charge you for our services and can provide a detailed bill that you can submit to your insurance. Many policies do not cover travel immunizations; some have an “immunization allowance.”

What can I expect in overall costs?
For new travelers who have not had travel vaccines, and have not been in the military, budget $600 for Central Africa and Amazon destinations, $500 for Asia, Indonesia, and Pacific Islands, and $300 for the rest of the world. Your costs may be less.

A three-shot rabies series is recommended for adventure travelers.
If you will be remote from medical care, more than 24 hours travel from a hospital, in an area with risk, this is advised. The rabies series can be completed in four weeks.
